The color, the movement and light of the natural world is what I want people to see in my work. Also the essential beauty of the paint itself, smearing, splashing, dripping. I like to leave evidence of the behavior of paint. I will scrub it on with a brush or knife, scratch it back off, expose remnants of the process. Recently, I am pouring and splattering paint onto the canvas.

Moriarty 's work is somewhat devious..She rips into these ladylike gardens with a modern sense of abstraction...the jaunting brushwork, the vibrant colors, the painterly attitude..a mine-field of influences and techniques fighting for attention." -dan swartz, fort wayne reader
Alternately influenced by Bonnard, Helen Frankenthaler and Rauschenberg, Moriarty evolves in her study of the natural world splattering and pouring oil paint onto delicately stained canvases. Primarily an oil painter, she has started gluing objects onto some works. She is currently experimenting with assemblage and materials to see where it leads.
Classicly trained, Moriarty majored in painting early at Fort Wayne Art Institute, then lived in San Francisco for a time and later worked in print, television, interior design and all things visual. Later returning to study at Indiana University FW where she “loosened up enough to use a brush again after years of pens and pencils” studying with Audrey Ushenko and John Hrehov. Having closed her studio/gallery on Columbia Street last January, she now paints in her new studio at Lotus Gallery.
A portion of her work is commissioned paintings of persons, homes and gardens. Her work shows at Lotus Gallery, Fort Wayne IN, Artists' Den, Valporaiso IN, and Maple Avenue Gallery, Evanston IL. Signed giclee prints of the paintings are available through the galleries and on this website at "Contact Us".
